With over 25 years working as a Prison Officer and 5 years as Cop in Manurewa, Steve lives with a heart for changing the trajectory for at-risk youth who find themselves caught in negative cycles. With deep respect for every person and their journey, Steve works with local schools around the Pukekohe area, and in conjunction with Pukekohe Family Services and other agencies, to provide personal development and coaching programs for at-risk youth and teenagers.
Boxing instills discipline, confidence and respect whilst being a hobby to enjoy, develop skills, improve fitness, boost mood and mental health. With reports of immediate behavioural changes from parents, teachers and case workers, CFR Fitness is committed to providing this support to local whānau and community of Pukekohe.
Confidentiality and respect are guaranteed at all stages.
CFR has been developing partnerships to benefit young people in Franklin. We have successfully partnered with CLM Community Sport and Tū Manawa funding to provide free fitness for girls and young women. Yes, FREE, as in no cost at all to participants. These hour long classes are twice weekly for young women aged 12-24 years and are aimed at engaging young women to work on their own fitness, confidence and generally wellbeing. CLM and Sports NZ have a priority to encourage more women and girls into fitness, particularly in post-covid times. Providing a choice of fitness activity cost-free means financial worries and level of fitness ability are not barriers to feeling good.
We have been able to employ at least two young women as assistant coaches, with added training and mentoring provided for them.
We are also working with local schools, Franklin Family Support Services, and other organisations, such as Enhance, to benefit school-aged young people and support them in a range of wellbeing initiatives.
